Last Weekend at Hunter

On Friday we made the long trek up to Hunter Mountain. We made the 2 1/2 hour trip in record time: only about 4 hours and7 stops! The last stop was because the van had overheated. Apparently aircraft carriers and mountains don't get along very well.

I didn't know coolant could boil.

We were the first to get to the house. Jeremy and Ann were about 1/2 hour behind us, and we didn't see U.S. and A. E. until about 11 pm. Since it was far to late to start any games then, we just reminisced. . . until about 5 am.

When we woke up the next afternoon, (I mean morning, of course,) we played a Puerto Rico Tournament. Mark won his game, I won mine. After another round to see who the black horse would be, we started the finals. Mark beat me by one point! I could have won, but I miscalculated who I was playing against, and made the wrong move on the last turn. I could have won the Puerto Rico tournament; I'm sure it will haunt me for the rest of my life!

. . . or at least another week.

We also played several another games, including pounce, won by Ann, and the second game by me, despite Mark's attempts to sabotage me.
Over the weekend, I confirmed my suspicion that I will never win any medals at pool, darts, or Foosball. (Unless they started giving out medals to people that come in so far behind they feel bad for them?)

On Sunday afternoon, before packing up, Timothy attempted to blow out 13 candles on an ice cream cake. (Can't believe I caught that on camera. He only did it for a split second!)
Then, there was one last game. Not sure what you call it, but Mark was the champion. Playing with a Fooseball, he was undefeated until. . .

they tried the pool ball. He started laughing too hard to blow.

Thank you, Uncle Steve and Aunt Ellen, for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, particularly so since Uncle Steve didn't win any board games!

A Good Game Week

This past week, I won Puerto Rico, my team won Pictionary, I took second in Agricola, and middled in Scategories. All-in-all, a very satisfactory showing.

(But please, not to notice I said nothing of the week before. . .)

The Trail of Tears

Did you know there are 2 "Trail of Tears"? This second one is on our property, not out west. And it is more like the "Trail of Blood" then "Trail of Tears", and it was established in 2010, not 1838, and Timothy made this one, not the Cherokees.

It came into existence yesterday. Timothy was outside, barefoot, as usual, enjoying the beautiful spring weather. He was down by the climbing tree, and stepped on a large piece of glass. He walked around the backyard, up the deck to get me, down the deck stairs, around the front of the house in the mudroom door, and into the apartment to the bathroom; leaving a puddle of blood with each step, and a whole pool on the bathroom and shower floors.

It was pretty deep, but not too wide cut, so after we got it to stop bleeding, Dad cleaned it up, wrapped it up with a tee-shirt, and sent a search party to the store for butterfly bandages. Sandra doctored it up when they got home. It was fine for the first hour, but when Timothy "hobbled" on it without thinking, it broke open, and spread several whole new puddles of blood on the bathroom floor. (Guess who was the indoor clean-up crew yet?)

Timothy took full advantage of his "invalid" state to watch movies all afternoon.
It was interesting trying to keep his foot elevated to stop the blood. As you can see, we improvised with a laundry basket, boxes, and occasionally people.

You would have thought that Dad's episode in January would have been enough blood for the year; apparently Timmy was trying to out do him.

House Update

Since I haven't posted very often, you might be under the impression that we have been too busy working on the house to write. Well, far be it from me to disillusion you.

***

Well, I guess maybe I will a little bit, by telling you what we are working on now. (By-the-by, I have received strict instructions not to show finished pictures of anything until everyone who is going to see the house, in person, has seen it. So I will have to content myself with showing partial pictures of everything, that won't really show you anything.)

Our most resent endeavor has been hard wood flooring. (And when I say "our" I mean "Paul's, with some help from Mark, with occasional help from 'go-fer's' ".) We were hoping it would only take 3 or 4 days to do the upstairs (downstairs is getting carpeted), and have now realized it takes 2 or 3 days per room. So far, the boys' bedroom, and the office are finished, and the kitchen/dining room should be finished today, leaving the hallway and living room.

Once the floors and painting are finished, there is still the trim, the electrical trim out, the kitchen installation, the plumbing finish up, and the (insert Darth Vader theme) Final Inspection!

Christos Anesti!

Aleithos Anesti!

Becase He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living, just because He lives !
